Assault Weapons and the Rule of Ignorance

Someone once said that “ignorance can be educated, stupid is forever.” My personal thinking is that “stupid” is best reserved for those really dumb things we all do from time to time. Pretty much everybody can share in that sentiment.

Ignorance on the other hand can either be uneducated or it can be a choice. Those who are uneducated can be helped by opportunities to learn and there are many venues for that. Those who are ignorant by choice can be dangerous.

NRAphobia is a mental disorder that affects millions on the left. The NRA claims membership of about 4.5 million out of a population of about 330 million. That’s 1.4% of all Americans. Harry “Get a Shotgun” Reid said recently that his party has tried everything to get gun control legislation through Congress and still keeps losing to the National Rifle Association. “We’ve tried everything so maybe we are to blame. Or maybe the American people are gullible to these NRA folks.”

So there you have it. If we the American people don’t support the politics of Reid and his ilk (we have to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it) then we are gullible. “Gullible” is a nice word compared to many they use such as stupid, ignorant, uneducated, phobic, dangerous and others.

We must assume therefore that if this raging monster called the NRA, which is made up of 1.4% of the population, can be made to go away then the murder and mayhem that stalks our streets will also magically disappear. The citizens will be disarmed, the Marxists will be in control and the utopia of totalitarianism will be ushered in. Think again “Shotgun.”

Reid is an example of ignorance that is truly dangerous. Because he really doesn’t believe that gun control will do anything to reduce crime. He’s not that stupid. He just thinks there are enough Americans who are stupid enough to support his pet cause.

Now let’s get back to assault weapons. An assault is an unlawful physical attack on another person. An assault weapon is the weapon used in the attack, the most common of which is the hands and often the feet. Knives, cars, chain saws and numerous other inanimate objects are also used in assaults. To label a particular type of rifle as an assault rifle is both legally and grammatically incorrect. Such a label is only meant to instill fear in the ignorant and to imply that those who own such weapons are somehow dangerous or unbalanced.

Yet Americans buy this nonsense. Drug overdoses are increasing at an alarming rate yet we keep making more drugs legal. Drug and alcohol abuse kills thousands, affects the health of millions and costs billions of dollars to combat and treat. Will gun control stop this? Will gun control stop the slaughter of the unborn? Will gun control stop the onslaught of apocalyptic Islam and its tens of millions of adherents? Will gun control stop the dumbing down of our educational system which now produces millions of intellectual zombies?

These issues are too tough to handle because to take an honest look at what is happening in our country first requires that each of us look in the mirror. America is in a moral crisis. At one time morality was defined by Biblical standards and by our Constitution which is based on Biblical principles. There are many who will argue that this is not the case but all it takes is a cursory read of the founder’s writings to understand the truth. A notable quote from John Adams in 1798: “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

So when I look in the mirror I have to ask myself; “Are my actions, attitudes and lifestyle contributing to the moral strength of my country or are they self- centered, caring only for me without regard to my influence on those around me or society at large?” It’s a hard question.

Judges 21: 25 In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes. (KJV) In this scripture “king” represents authority. Those who defy authority and determine their own morality are lawless. It doesn’t take but a quick look at the daily news to see that as a nation we are becoming more lawless every day. Lawlessness starts at the highest levels of government and ultimately finds its way into the streets.

So gun control has become the mantra of this administration and of much of the left. Maybe if we invoke it often enough something magic will happen. Perhaps if we add climate change it will be the perfect formula and utopia will be ours.

Folks, they think we are fools. Are we?
